Malleable Cast Iron (Temper Iron)

Malleable cast iron, also known as temper iron, is a material that gains improved mechanical properties through a heat treatment process called tempering.

A distinction is made between White Malleable Cast Iron and Black Malleable Cast Iron.

White Malleable Cast Iron

White malleable cast iron is characterized by the following properties:

  • Good weldability
  • Good machinability
  • High toughness
  • Good corrosion resistance
  • High tensile strength
  • Good elongation after fracture

Black Malleable Cast Iron

In black malleable cast iron, the heat treatment takes place in the absence of air, in contrast to white malleable cast iron.
